I left San Francisco. I really appreciate AJC, YFU and Foreign Ministry of Japan.

Kakehashi 2-14

For Shabes we visited Oshman Family JCC. Very nice atmosphere for a shabes, Shabbat, weekend. We walked around the campus with Rabbi Serena Eizenberg and a Japanese woman who is living there. Then we attended to Sabbat morning service and noshed. It was a peaceful moment and I loved them.

安息日の朝は、ユダヤ人のコミュニティセンターに行きました。

ユダヤ人のコミュニティセンター、なんとここにもスポーツジムが併設されています。プールも充実していて、なかなか魅力的です。シャバットサービスにも参加しました。同時にいくつかのサービスが行われています。テーマが分かれていました。トーラーリーディングの他に、トーラーのお勉強、キッズ、メディテーションがテーマになったサービスが並行して行われていました（わかりにくくてすみません）。自分で好きなところを選んで参加します。途中で入ったり抜けたりもできますので気楽に入れます。

わたしは今まで、一つのシナゴーグで一つのサービスが行われるスタイルしか知りませんでしたが、今回の訪問のおかげで一つのシナゴーグで複数のサービスが行われているところもあると知りました。

Kakehashi 2-13

We visited the Farm. Peaceful atmosphere, tranquility, fun, fresh vegetables, place for kids, clean air... everything I need!!!! I loved them very much!
「ファーム」アーバンアダマ（都市農場）に行ってきました。

野菜や花やハーブを育てていました。

水の浄化につかう魚やめんどり、ヤギも飼っているみたいです。


水耕栽培もしていました。

水の浄化に使えなくなった魚と、卵を産まなくなっためんどりは食べちゃうそうです。ファームができてから８年目くらい経ったそうです。ここで作った野菜のほとんどは週末に来た人に無料で提供しているそうです。肉はスタッフや研修にきた人たちが食べるそうです。子どもたちもファームが好きで来るそうです。寄付やイベントの参加費でお金を集めているそうです。
８年間もうまくいっているなんてすごいなと思いました。

I had a nice conversation in Yiddish, I felt great. I don’t know why but talking Yiddish with nice people is always very good for my soul. I believe it will happen to me with Ladino in the future! Love them!

Rabbi Cooper introduced me Rabbi Marvin Hier because he speaks Yiddish. We talked in Yiddish and I was very happy. I’ve heard after the meeting he had hid birthday party and there he talked about me! yay!

Kakehashi 2-11

We celebrated Purim 2019 together with people at the Peninsula Sinai Congregation and I met my friend from Yiddish by accident!!!! And I found she was the person to read Megillah. Then her reading was great, incredible.

Since we have mostly talked in Yiddish, I haven’t know that she could read Hebrew soooooo good and ahe had such a talent. 

Until today, we couldn’t seen each other roughly around ten years. It was a nes (miracle) that we met there. Very happy.

We visited the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles and made presentations.

ロサンゼルスの総領事館でプレゼンをしました。現地のユダヤ人コミュニティの人たちと交流しました。温かい雰囲気で迎えていただいて本当に嬉しかったです。日本のユダヤ研究に興味をもっていただけて本当に励みになりました。

We visited Rabbi Cooper at Simon Wiesenthal Center. Rabbi Cooper described us many things about the relationships between Jewish people and Japan.

On the day, a professor from AJC leaded us to show the UCLA campus. We could visit another professor and her students at UCLA. Actually, I met them there three weeks ago. I asked to establish a short course (maybe for one week? Please!!) for Ladino. It is because I want to learn it. Love them!

なんといってみるとそこにいたのは、三週間前に参加したUCLAのラディノの集会で会った研究者達でした！「日本人がくるってきいてたけど、まさかあなたにも会うとはは。あなた日本に帰ってから、また来たの？それともあれからずっとこっちにいたの？」と聞かれました。どこでもドアができたら欲しいです。

記事を書いてくださったのは、ハリウッドのシナゴーグのラビです。

私のことを若くてイディッシュも流暢と書いてくださいました。このとしになると若いって言われると気分も上がります。最近私がやってるラディノ活動のことにも触れてくれて、とっても嬉しいです。

10 Young Japanese Scholars of Judaism and Jewish History visit Los Angeles | John L. Rosove | The Blogs

I had the unusual pleasure this week of welcoming into my synagogue 10 young Japanese men and women scholars of Judaism, Jewish history, Zionism, anti-Semitism, and Jewish thought. Their biographies are all impressive and frankly, I was stunned by the depth and breadth of their intellectual and academic concerns and interests.

One young woman, a post-doctoral researcher, speaks fluent Yiddish and teaches it at Tokyo University. She intends to learn  Ladino next because she is interested in the encounter between Jews and Muslims during the Middle Ages

Acctually I am teaching at Tokyo University for Foreign Studies but I know its English name is so similar to the University of Tokyo where I taught Yiddish for a semester and I am currently doing my Post doctoral research....

Kakehashi 2-8

We had a lunch at a very famous Jewish restaurant in LA. The restauran is placed in the area where Jewish people were living (They left there). Today, I saw a lot of Hispanic there today.

What the owner who is the son of the founder of the restaurant told us that he thinks important how to talk with people and how to respect to them. He is good at these things and that makes his business success.

We met ten of Access members (AJC youth) and had a mexican dinner. It was very nice time to share our interests towards Jewish Studies and their interests towards Japan. To be interested in each other is a great thing. Though we met for the first time, we had a lot to talk about.

AJCの若手の会であるAccessのメンバーとの食事会がありました。メキシコ料理屋でご馳走になりました。なんだかとても美味しいビーガン料理を食べながら話しました。普段は研究者に会うことが多いので、そうじゃない人に会うのはなんだか新鮮でした。
日本が大好きだという人が、「ユダヤに興味をもってここまで来てくれて本当に嬉しい」と何度も言ってくれました。日本のことを好きでいてくれるなんて嬉しいけれど、何でそんなに好きなんだろうと不思議に思いました。でも自分のことをふりかえれば、私もイディッシュ語やラディノ語をはじめとしたユダヤの言語やその話者、話者の子孫のことをとても好きなので、同じようなもんなのかなと思いました。人には好みがあるんで。たまたま好みが合った場合（同じ趣味をもっているということでも、お互いのことを好きということでも）は幸せですね。
今回はお互いに興味あるもの同士。ということで、楽しい時間を過ごしました。出会ったばかりだったのにとってもあたたかく迎えてくれて、本当にありがたいです。何か共通の話題があるっていいですね。

Hebrew Union College, Wilshire Boulevard Temple and Pico Union Project

We learned about Tolerance to other people there. They are trying to make the world better from their neighbourhood.

At Wilshire Boulevard Temple, the Rabbi Susan Nanus told us about their social activities to help people around. They provide Koreans and Latin Americans around: Free dental care, vision care mental health services, legal aid, book distribution and english as a second language education.

Wilshire Boulevard Temple was so beautiful and luxurious. Rabbi Susan told us that the synagogue was designed under the influence of poeple working for films. Oy... es iz Hollywood....

Pico Union Project is amazing. The synagogue there was very relaxed, casual and cozy. If I rememver her explanation well, there are five groups of people who are coming there to pray and do some activitites.

Tolerance is so important... I learnt a lot today.

They put arts, street toys for children, trush boxes and plants on the street.

She says when she doesn’t see plants they put before, they are happy because someone take it home and their home is with the plants. Wow!! I was so surprised hearing that. Very nice!!

We visited Temple Israel of Hollywood and Rabbi John Rosove was very nice to us. We spent time together and had interractive conversations in very relaxed mood.

ハリウッドのシナゴーグに行き、ラビからお話を伺いました。Jstreetというユダヤのロビー団体でもアクティブに活動しているラビです。ラビがそこで働きはじめたころから、シナゴーグに来る人は3倍になっているようで、人気あるんだなと思いました。寄付もとても多いようです。

セオドール・ヘルツェルの『ユダヤ人国家』の初版がありました。

月曜日と金曜日は、学校の生徒向けの祈祷があるということでした。学校や幼稚園（保育園なのだろうか）も併設されていて、来る人も多そうでした。彼がそこで働いていた30年の間に、メンバーが3倍に増えたそうです。

John served as national Co-Chair of the Rabbinic Cabinet of J Street (2011-2016), a pro-Israel pro-peace political and educational organization in Washington, D.C., advocating for a two-state solution to the Israel and Palestinian conflict. He is now a member of the Executive Rabbinic Cabinet of J Street.

Our only free time in Santa Monica. After taking a photo, we had one hour free time. Walking around a little bit, I felt a weekend atmosphere. If I could live here and make some researches about Jewish communities, that would be great!!

After dreaming a little bit, I had good Israeli food for a dinner with Dganit from AJC, Barb from YFU and my research friends.

I had a great weekend!!

ロサンゼルスにあるスカーバルミュージアムという名のユダヤ博物館を見学しました。

世界のいろんな地域のユダヤについてちょっとづつ展示してあります。ベルリンの大きいシナゴーグの九十何パーセントの大きさで作ってあるらしいトーラー朗読台。

前にベルリンのシナゴーグに行ったことを思い出しつつ、記念撮影。

フレンドリーな説明付きで、よく分かりました。規模は小〜中くらいでしょうか。

She was very nice and friendly for us. The instruction was interractive and we enjoyed it though it was just after long flights from Tokyo and Kyoto.

併設のカフェが大変オススメらしいですが、今日は閉まってました。ユダヤのことをあまり知らない人にこそちょっと寄ってみてほしいです。知ってる人にとっては、気合い入れすぎていくと物足りないかもしれないけれど、普段やってることを振り返る機会になるし面白いと思います。
