東京外国語大学でのイディッシュ語の授業の話。

アメリカから送ってもらったイディッシュ語の雑誌(イスラエルで出版)の話。

I'm teaching Yiddish for three months at Tokyo University for Foreign Studies since 2016.

Today, the students in my Yiddish class made presentations about Yiddish, Sephardic and Israeli "cuisine and music." It's getting more popular about Sephardic and Israeli cultures in my class. For example, a Russian student (taking the zoom class from Russia) introduces modern Israeli musicians in Japanese! Japanese students learn to describe Sephardic music to make a presentation in Yiddish class. A Muslim student describes Kashrut, compares it with Halal, and discusses how we can find the best way to eat together. It's great. We are learning about the world through Yiddish. I see my teaching is a bit (could be "lot") balagan, and I always feel nervous about it. But what can I do? It's so inspiring for me.

↓By the way, I've got two cartons of Yiddish books from the Yiddish Book Center. It's great to have them. I can't imagine how much voluntary work is behind them. Thank you.
